The Avila University Singers embarked on a concert tour through Italy in June. Led by Music Director, Dr. Amity Bryson, the choir performed at St. Peter’s Basilica, the epicenter of the Catholic faith on June 23.

Additional concerts were for the Basilica di Santa Maria sopra Minerva in Rome on June 25, San Filippo Neri Church on in Siena on June 27 and the Church of Santa Maria Miracoli in Venice on June 28.

In addition to the opportunities to perform, the music ensemble experienced Italian arts and culture by visiting Florence, Verona and Milan.

Judith Becker, a sophomore at Avila and a member of the University Singers, was happy to represent her university. “What I love about being at Avila is being surrounded by a community of like-minded people who are compelled to make music,” said Becker. “Being able to visit Vatican City during our centennial year was a true testament to Avila’s Catholic identity.” Avila University is celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2016.

Known as the “2016 Avila Roma Corale,” the choir presented  a varied repertoire of classical works while touring the country. The choir returned on June 30.
