Creative Connection: Annual Future Stages Festival Goes Virtual

Future Stages Festival is expanding its reach and going virtual again this summer! Indulge in the arts, and celebrate the talents of diverse young performers from around the greater Kansas City metro area. Taking place June 12 and 13, the virtual festival allows families from all over the region and beyond to enjoy riveting youth performances and entertaining arts activities from the safety and comfort of their own homes.

The weekend of engaging online content will debut through a special portal on the Kauffman Center’s website. Premiering on June 12 are performance videos featuring Kansas City Boys Choir and Kansas City Girls Choir, HK Chinese Folk Dance Group, Crescendo in Motion and many more. First-time participants include Pythons Drill Team, The Culture House Conservatory of Dance Youth Ensemble, Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Kansas City and Gurukul Dance Company.

In addition to videos, viewers can download an Activity Booklet and Festival Guide. The Activity Booklet offers page after page of family-friendly puzzles, crafts, coloring pages and more. The Festival Guide offers participants a close look at performance groups and community partners that have contributed to the event.

Audiences can shout out and share kudos this year for specific performers, performances or activities through a virtual applause wall. This feature will be available via the Kauffman Center’s website, making the experience more interactive for home viewers. Additionally, five youth groups have been selected to record performances at the Center and their videos will debut June 12 on the Kauffman Center’s Facebook channel via Watch Parties. These special streaming performances will allow virtual attendees yet another way to interact with and celebrate young artists in real time. Livestreamed content, premiering June 13, will focus on tours by Kauffman Center staff and engaging activities from community partners, including Kansas City Ballet and Kansas City Symphony. These live components to the festival offer community connection and are entertaining for the whole family.

Future Stages Festival is a great opportunity for youth performers to show off their talent and creativity, and provides a way for the Kansas City community to celebrate local performing artists.
