Myles Dunigan: Everything Always-Already Ends

April 21, 2017 - June 3, 2017

| Free

On 3rd Friday in April, Kiosk Gallery presents “Everything Always-Already Ends”, an M.F.A. thesis exhibition by Myles Dunigan.

From the artist’s statement:

“In a world where our reality is increasingly dictated by technological mediation, our experience of the land around us is more dependent than ever before on images. Rather than bringing us closer to the natural world, this image inundation creates a desire for something beyond the normal, something uncanny and challenging that brings us back to a visceral, emotional experience of images.

“This exhibition examines the sublime landscape picture through digital fabrication. Drawing upon 3D rendered models both found and original, Everything Always-Already Ends brings fantastical, apocalyptic spaces to life by engaging in the history and tradition of pictorial representation. Scrolls, dioramas, and book objects come together to challenge our corporeal experience of images. Each of these worlds is transformed through process, be it drawing, painting, or material to reference the affects and expectations of aesthetic representation. Reality is eschewed for the hyperreal, as history, space and time become fluid.”

Myles Dunigan is an artist from Massachusetts. His work is primarily concerned with the spiritual and ephemeral qualities that we experience in nature and the role that technology plays in shaping our image of the world. Dunigan was trained as a printmaker at the Rhode Island School of Design and is currently pursuing a masters degree in art from the University of Kansas. His recent exhibitions include the Far Eastern Museum in Russia, the International Printmaking Center of New York, the Southern Arkansas Art Center, the Southeast Center for Photography, and Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco. Dunigan currently lives and works in Lawrence, Kansas.
