One of the KC’s Finest Art Festivals is in Eastern Jackson County Every Fall

summit-blog1Are you aware that every fall there is a popular fine art festival in Lee’s Summit?  The Summit Art Festival again will take place this fall from Oct. 7-9, in downtown Lee’s Summit. And did you know that this festival is organized and run completely by volunteers from Summit Art in collaboration with Downtown Main Street Lees Summit?

Summit Art, a juried-member based nonprofit, has been supporting the visual arts community in Lee’s Summit since 2004. Summit Art provides scholarships and gallery exhibits for college-bound high school artists each year; exclusive gallery space for members; art classes for children, adults and the underserved; workshops with nationally-known artists; artist exhibits for our communities at GOT Art Gallery, and the Summit Art Festival.

This is the ninth year for the Summit Art Festival, and the fourth year it will take place in downtown Lee’s Summit. The establishment of Summit Art as a fixture in the arts community of the metropolitan area brings recognition to Lee’s Summit and provides unique opportunities for residents and the business community.  Downtown Lee’s Summit provides the perfect background for this growing festival and all of the visitors who attend each year.

More than 100 local, regional and national artists will exhibit and sell their work.  R-7 school district students also display their work as part of a special tent exhibit. The event also includes art exhibitions from Summit Art artists and an interactive Kids Art Zone with hands-on projects for children.

The 2016 Summit Art Festival features 20 different musicians in 3 locations over the span of the festival. The tremendous amount of talent and diversity in the greater Kansas City music scene will be well showcased by singer/songwriters and instrumentalists of all backgrounds performing a wide range of music encompassing folk, jazz, world music and pop/rock. These performances are one of the many components of the Summit Art Festival that keep people coming back year  after year.

The Summit Art Festival provides opportunities for artists and the community to share in the appreciation of high-quality visual arts.  The festival will run from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Oct. 8; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Oct.10.  For more information, visit summitartfest.org.
