Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art

The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art is located on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas (a major suburb of metropolitan Kansas City). JCCC is one of the region’s major providers for the visual and performing arts (Carlsen Center).

With an enrollment of over 34,000 students each semester, JCCC is the third largest institution of higher education in Kansas. The College is also a member of the prestigious League for Innovation, a national organization of leading community colleges in the United States. The JCCC campus, centrally located in the county on 234 acres, opened in 1972.

Johnson County lies at the heart of the nation and recently had three of its cities ranked in the top 50 best places to live in America. The County’s current population is estimated at more than 516,731 and is projected to reach nearly 626,723 by 2015. Of counties in the United States with populations above 250,000, Johnson County ranks first in percent of adults with at least a high school education, sixth in percent with at least a bachelor’s degree, and 16th in percent with a graduate or professional degree. The educational attainment of Johnson County’s population ranks among an elite few nationally.

From 1990 to 2007, Johnson County Community College’s former Gallery of Art presented over 80 major exhibitions. The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art opened in October 2007 to international acclaim for its architecture, collection, and exhibition programming.
