INKubator PRESS of Kansas City is announcing its workshop schedule for 2011.  We’ve got a lot going on in the shop, from book binding to letterpress, with screen printing, and etching as well.  January and February are scheduled so far with more classes in the coming months.  Check our website for updated times, descriptions, and details.

Workshops | January and February 2011
Basic Letterpress with Kevin Horvath
Kevin has come to INK Press with his type cabinet, ornaments and wood type to teach small groups about the sweet art of letterpress printing.  Students will be given the chance to set their own type and to work with different papers and presses in making their prints. Everyone will get to exchange prints and it should be a very exciting and exploratory event.
$45, January 29th, 10am-2pm

Coptic Book Binding
$70+$15 materials fee, February 5th, 9am-4pm
In one day you can create your very own open spine book.  Coptic binding is a methodical process and even the beginner book binder can create a functioning useful blank book.  Sign up and receive materials to build your own book including tools that you can keep to take on your own projects after the class is finished.

Copper Plate Etching with Nicholas Naughton: 6 sessions
$160 + $30 materials fee, Wednesdays, February 9th, 16th, 23rd, and March 2nd, 9th, and 16th 6-9pm
Learn the basics in this introductory etching class.  Starting with plate preparation, you’ll learn how to create a copper plate etching using ferric chloride etchant.  We’ll discuss types of paper, plate wiping, and techniques including line etching, softground, roulettes, chin colle, and drypoint.

Intro to Screen Printing with Chuck Crossland
Learn the secrets to making consistent editions using our water based inks and equipment at INK Press.  We’ll guide you through taking your digital image and turning it into a finished multiple.  You mix the color, you design the print, and afterwards you can take your prints and trade them, gift them, or put them on your wall.  Some computer skills are suggested.
