Red Star Studios Presents a Solo Exhibition featuring Deborah Schwartzkopf

Red Star Studios will present a solo exhibition of Deborah Schwartzkopf’s exceptional ceramics inspired by color and forms found in natural and human made environments. The exhibit opens February 4th, 2011 with a reception from 6-9 pm, and runs through February 26th, 2011. Schwartzkopf is currently working at Pottery Northwest in Seattle, WA; making work, teaching community classes, and conducting workshops across the United States. She received her BA from the University of Alaska, spent a year of independent study at San Diego State University, and completed her MFA, from Pennsylvania State University, in 2005. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT, Mudflat Studios in Somerville, MA, the Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA, and the Sanboa Ceramics Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China.

Deborah Schwartzkopf will be in Kansas City in February to conduct a weekend workshop at Red Star Studios. She will demonstrate playful approaches to functional vessel making. Through the use of irregular and curious shapes, patterns, and simple bisque molds, Schwartzkopf will show us how she arrives at her unique forms. The workshop will run Saturday, February 5th from 9am-5pm and Sunday, February 6th from 9am-5pm, the cost is $150. Contact the gallery at 816-474-7316 for more information or to RVSP.
