The Savoy Hotel’s four-year transformation is complete, and 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City is now a dynamic new home for contemporary art. “21c Kansas City is an extraordinary addition to the city’s visual arts scene. It’s terrific that this legendary structure now exhibits and extols cutting-edge, contemporary art,” says Bruce Hartman, executive director of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art.

Open Spaces KC: Surprises on Tap
Dan Cameron treated the last few days in July like he was training for the Olympics. He found time for the gym. He tried to get to bed on time. He ate his veggies. All of this in preparation for Open Spaces KC, a brand new cultural event that will take place over nine weeks in several usual and not-so-usual arts destinations in the city. “There are going to be lots of surprises between now and Oct. 28,” the artistic director of Open Spaces said the other day.

A Stimulating Season for Music Lovers
Rest well, classical music fans. You will need your strength to get through this eclectic season provided by Kansas City’s cultural organizations. Fortunately, there is plenty of stimulation in the community’s vibrant offerings. First off, we noticed an uptick in representation of women throughout the year. Concerts devoted to the works of women pepper the season, but more importantly, works by women are integrated in the programming, accounting for fewer token, and more sustainable, appearances.
