During Child Abuse Prevention Month, CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties hosts its annual mission-based Promise of Hope event that is focused on bringing awareness to not only the organization itself, but the individual stories of those who have navigated the foster care system. GoodCapp Arts Youth Theater Ensemble, a talented group of young actors from New York City, will be making their way to Kansas City on April 29th as they portray eight different teens who each share a different story of their experience within the foster care system. Led by one of the best “youth acting coaches in the country”, Katie Cappiello has written and directed multiple plays that relay the message of social justice and Promise of Hope: Stories On Stage will be your opportunity to witness her powerful storytelling firsthand. In a piece that was developed for The National CASA/GAL Association, these stories are true in nature and resemble the experiences that local Kansas City foster youth undergo. CASA of Johnson & Wyandotte Counties serves youth facing situations such as the ones mentioned in the performances and your support allows for the volunteer advocates who serve as their voice in court to directly advocate for their best interests.
Prior to the moving performances from the actors at GoodCapp Arts Youth Theater Ensemble, event attendees will be given the opportunity to participate in CASA’s silent auction consisting of enjoyable items from around the Greater Kansas City Metro. Stay tuned to CASA’s Promise of Hope: Stories On Stage event website for the auction’s opening: secure.qgiv.com/event/promiseofhope/items/.
With accomplished event emcee, Krista Eyler setting the mood, you are bound to have an entertaining evening.
