Kids can Clap, Cheer and Chat
On a trip to the zoo, it's pretty clear to kids what you can and can't touch. The animals in habitats set back from the walkways are off limits; however, the critters in the fenced areas can't wait for you and your quarters to come in, visit and offer a little treat. But when the destination for a field trip or special family event is the theater or a museum, how should a kid behave?

Gladstone Theatre in the Park Celebrates 25 Seasons
In 1988 on a plywood stage, Gladstone Theatre in the Park presented its first show, Oliver! The first season was performed without a band, dressing rooms, or programs. Now more than 100 performances later, the Theatre in the Park will celebrate 25 seasons as it performs Hello Dolly July 6-8 and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Aug. 3-5.

Homecoming
Something amazing occurred near the end of March at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, born and raised in Prairie Village, KS, came back home to make her debut with the Kansas City Symphony, conducted by Michael Stern. The program included a piece by Jake Heggie, a noted composer whose music DiDonato had sung before.

Inventing The Future
In 1889, the Eiffel Tower in Paris served as the gateway into that World’s Fair. It remains a visible part of the Paris skyline. The Shedd Aquarium became a high point for the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. While the Sun Pavilion on the lawn of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art will not remain a permanent fixture on the park grounds, jthis unique building captures the spirit of world's fair innovation.
