Weinberger Fine Art is excited to announce the upcoming exhibition, HUNT SLONEM | WORKS FROM THE ARTIST’S STUDIO.

Join the artist at Weinberger Fine Art for a special VIP cocktail reception and book signing on Thursday, May 5th from 5-8pm.  Food will be provided by Bluestem and entertainment by ArtsKC grant recipient, Amado Espinoza.  Tickets to the reception are $50 and can be purchased at the gallery or online at weinbergerfineart.com/hunt-slonem-vip-reception

This exhibition highlights new work recently curated from Hunt Slonem’s studio in New York City by Jori Cheville (gallery director) and Kim Weinberger (WFA owner and chief curator).  The gallery walls will be painted vivid colors to mirror the design and high-energy found in many of Hunt Slonem’s paintings, books, and interior design.  The exhibition will feature a series of his iconic bunny paintings, in addition to a series of vivid florals and abstracted bayou landscapes.

Hunt Solemn (b. July 18, 1951) has become a design icon and lifestyle trendsetter.  Slonem has had more than 350 exhibitions at prestigious galleries and museums internationally. Globally, more than 100 museums include his work in their collections, among them the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City.  Weinberger Fine Art, in Kansas City, has been proud to represent Slonem in the greater Kansas City region since 2010.

Recently Slonem’s paintings have been made into a line of rug and textile designs.  His interest in interior design is showcased in his book, When Art Meets Design, which features several of his historic homes that he restored and designed.  He divides his time between Louisiana, where he owns two plantation homes on the historic register, Albania in St. Mary’s Parish and Lakeside in Pointe Coupee; and New York City where he has lived and worked since 1973.

Slonem studied painting at Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine; Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN; and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University of Louisiana. He has received the prestigious “Stars of Design” award in art October 2009 in New York City, the Greenshields Foundation award in 1976, the National Endowment for the Arts Grant in 1991, and numerous others.

Weinberger Fine Art will have copies available of 4 books by or about Hunt Slonem: Where Art meets Design, by Hunt Slonem; The Worlds of Hunt Slonem, by Dominique Nahas; Bunnies, by Hunt Slonem; and Pleasure Palaces, the Art and Homes of Hunt Slonem, by Vincent Katz.  Slonem will be available to sign books at the VIP cocktail reception on Thursday, May 5th from 5-8pm.
