Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents to headline Winterlude Jazz Festival at MTC

Join the Midwest Trust Center (MTC) this February for two days of jazz with your favorite Kansas City artists, culminating with Jazz at Lincoln Center PRESENTS: “New Orleans Songbook.”

February 15 Features Deborah Brown Quartet
On Saturday, hear music from Lynn Zimmer and Friends, Eddie Moore, the JCCC Jazz Ensemble, and a special lecture by author Libby Hanssen. Festivities will be capped off with “My Journey,” from the Deborah Brown Quartet. An artist since 1972, Brown will share her stories of well-known jazz artists, an encounter with Michael Jackson, dinner with Quincy Jones, and an evening with Mel Tormé. In between stories, music of the American Songbook will be featured with visiting Portland pianist George Colligan, bassist Ben Liefer, and drummer John Kizilarmut.

February 16 Highlights Local and International Jazz
Come back Sunday for performances by the Doug Talley Quartet, guest lecturer Chuck Haddix, newly announced winner of JCCC’s Area School Jazz Competition, and the Ensemble Ibérica Quartet. Closing out the festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center PRESENTS brings the soul of New Orleans and spirit of Mardi Gras, celebrating the composers and inspired songs of the Crescent City. From Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong to Ellis Marsalis and James Black, New Orleans has long been an apex of musical innovation and inspiration. Led by pianist, Luther S. Allison, and vocalists Quiana Lynell and Milton Suggs, “New Orleans Songbook” immerses audiences in the captivating and timeless spirit of this vibrant city.
