Lifelong artist Allan Winkler is comfortable working in a variety of media – ceramics, painting, filmmaking, metal and paper cutouts, and finding new purpose for found objects and recovered materials. He moves seamlessly between media, but his presence is always recognizable.
Today Allan is using brushes and acrylic paint, and his canvas is a piano.
As one of potentially 100 sponsored artists, Allan is actually painting his second piano for Pianos on Parade, a program from the local non-profit Keys 4/4 Kids, celebrating 100 years of excellence for the Kansas City Music Teachers Association by placing 100 of these unique pianos in various outdoor locations around Kansas City during the summer of 2015.
Cicadas and pianos. The city is going to sound especially wonderful this summer!
