What better way to welcome spring than with art and flowers?
Leawood Fine Art Gallery cordially invites you to join them in celebrating the work of international contemporary artist, Heather L. Lowe from March 1-31, 2022. Lowe specializes in painting on cork, an organic and dynamic backdrop that weaves itself into the fabric of each piece. She is known for her expressive brushstrokes, vivid palette and infusing her paint with crystalline materials that are sourced from mines from around the globe. Incubated from her years at GIA (Gemological Institute Of America) Santa Monica, CA – Lowe has a love and knowledge for minerals, mines, gemstones, and their historic and energetic significance.
With such strong ties to the earth within her work, Lowe wanted to take that a step further by having her paintings interpreted as floral arrangements. How could the colors and forms be represented with one of the most organic and beautiful organisms on earth? Collaborating with other businesses in the KC community was a way for Lowe to shine a light on the vast creativity throughout. She has invited the finest florists from the KC metro to pair arrangements with select paintings in her collection.
The opening reception on Friday, March 4, from 5-9pm will give the public a chance to familiarize themselves with Lowe’s work as she will give an artist talk about her process and take guests on a personalized tour of her collection. There will be flowers inspired by her work there, but not the final pairings.
The final pairings will be showcased at the Reveal Celebration on Friday, March 25 from 5-9pm. There, you will see the marriage of the natural world with the created ones in Lowe’s work. Also beginning that evening, guests will be able to vote via Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, with the hashtag #AOTAVote2022 or in-person on which pairing is the most harmonious. The pairings will be on view until the conclusion of the show on March 31. The results will be revealed a week after the show’s conclusion via Leawood Fine Art’s social media pages.
At each reception, there will be free stems available to take as a memento from the exhibition and all of the pieces featured will be for sale.
This will be a wonderful showcase of creativity within our community! We hope to see you there!
