Don’t Miss KAWS’ Iconic Creations at Crystal Bridges This Spring

What does “family” mean to you? Connection? Comfort? Something else?

In KAWS: FAMILY — the newest exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas—internationally renowned artist KAWS invites us to explore the complex, familiar, and astonishingly heartfelt dynamics of family through his iconic characters.

Now open through July 28 at Crystal Bridges and originally organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the exhibition expands on its original presentation and features drawings, paintings, sculptures, advertising interventions, and product collaborations.

In a way, the exhibition offers something for everyone. Casual fans and kids will enjoy the colorful, playful twists on recognizable objects like cereal boxes and classic cartoons, while KAWS fanatics and art lovers will enjoy the breadth and depth of the artist’s pop art–infused creations.

Bold, Playful, and Unexpected

KAWS: FAMILY takes its title and thematic jumping-off point from the sculpture FAMILY (2021), which brings together four of KAWS’s characters in the style of a family portrait.

By combining familiar silhouettes, recognizable situations, and unfamiliar contexts, KAWS transforms the everyday into something extraordinary. His instantly recognizable figures—often melancholy yet endearing—invite us to reflect on our own family connections, memories, and experiences.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of KAWS or discovering his work for the first time, this is an exhibition you won’t want to miss.
