In 2004, an eclectic group of actors, directors, designers, and other theatre professionals made a commitment to the Kansas City theatrical landscape to ensure that local theatre continues to be produced, designed, directed, and performed by people who call Kansas City their home. Over the years Kansas City Actors Theatre (KCAT) has grown and changed in many important ways, but that core commitment remains the same. Kansas City Actors Theatre concluded our historic 20th Anniversary Season in March of 2025, and we would like to take this opportunity thank all of the amazing supporters who made these first twenty years a success.
Since 2004, KCAT has brought 72 productions to the stage performed all across the Kansas City metro area. From our frequent home at the City Stage in Union Station, to site-specific performances at the National World War I Museum and Memorial, The Webster House, Muehlebach Funeral Home, and Kansas City United Church of Christ, co-productions with the UMKC Theatre Department, the Unicorn Theatre, and the White Theatre at the Jewish Community Center, and many more performances on stages on both sides of the state line. These productions have brought over 400 local actors and over 500 other theatre professionals to the stage, backstage, and beyond. While not all of those amazing artists still call Kansas City their home, we hope they look back on their time with KCAT and Kansas City fondly as they travel all across the nation, and world, spreading the word about Kansas City’s amazing theatrical community.
It is not just KCAT’s cast, staff, and crew who have paved the way towards the last two decades of success, but hundreds of hours of work put in by volunteers, board members, and others in the Kansas City community. Whether you have made a financial contribution, attended productions, or even just told your friends and family about KCAT, you have been an integral part of these twenty years of history. As KCAT prepares for Season 21 starting this May, we reflect on the extreme generosity of the Kansas City community that has allowed us to get this far and bring two decades of “Great Actors. Smart Plays.” to the stage.
Here’s to the next twenty years (and beyond) of showcasing the amazing talent that calls Kansas City their home! Join us at the City Stage in Union Station for a Season 21 production, volunteer in the lobby, audition for future seasons, and please continue to tell anyone who will listen about the great art and artists that make us proud to call ourselves Kansas City Actors Theatre.
