Home/Land: Wahzhazhe Artists Speak
August 18, 2026 – July 24, 2027
Does the land where you were raised shape your concept of home? What if you live in diaspora? How do you name “home?” Wahzhazhe/Osage artists Norman Akers, Anita Fields and Ryan RedCorn explore ideas about home and homeland through a wide range of mediums: painting, print, textile, ceramic, photography and poetry. Forced from Kansas to Oklahoma in the late nineteenth century by U.S. government policies, the Wahzhazhe endured to build a strong sovereign nation. The artists’ stories invite others to consider how history and landscape shape their notions of home, land and belonging.
Home/Land is part of the initiative Home Is Where We Are: Art of First Americans, led by the Beach Museum of Art. It spans eight institutions across the Great Plains, positioning the region as a destination for experiencing contemporary Indigenous art. Scott Anderson: Wayfarer
November 10, 2026 – September 11, 2027
Known for richly layered works that move between landscape, memory, sensation, and abstraction, Kansas State University alumnus Scott Anderson creates paintings that feel both deeply observed and inwardly charged. In Wayfarer, forms emerge, dissolve, collide, and drift, inviting viewers into spaces shaped by color, gesture, atmosphere, and a sense of searching.
A 2024 Joan Mitchell Fellow, Anderson will work with K-State art students and faculty to create a limited-edition print, bringing new meaning to the museum’s Gift Print tradition — established in 1934 — as an acclaimed alumnus returns to campus to work alongside the next generation of artists.
