Alligator Alley Now Open at the Kansas City Zoo

The Zoo is welcoming five female American alligators in a brand-new habitat, Alligator Alley. The habitat is located near the Discovery Barn and Billy Goats Gruff Yard, where the koi pond is currently located.

The koi pond has been divided, with the south side becoming home to the alligators. The habitat will include a building that will provide indoor facilities for use by the alligators and their care specialists. While alligators can be outdoors most of the year, the building will include a viewing window that will allow guests to see the alligators when they are inside. Part of the fencing will be glass, allowing guests to get an up-close look at the alligators. The Zoo will also be adding a new daily animal chat by our care specialists for guests to learn more.

The five alligators were transferred from a facility in Florida in April and all received thorough veterinary health exams to ensure they are healthy. They are: Gertrude, Lucy, Eudora, Agnes and Rita.

Be sure to stop by the new habitat on your next visit to the Zoo. Open daily from 9:30-4 on weekdays and 9:30-5 on weekends. Buy your tickets online in advance for the best price on admission or purchase a membership and enjoy unlimited visits to the Zoo for an entire year.
