Art Show May 18 Celebrates Columbus Park Artists

K.C’s  Columbus Park neighborhood- home to dozens of artists,  will be hosting ‘proXimity’ (A Showcase of Columbus Park Artists), opening on Third Friday, May 18. The exhibition will take place at the trap gallery (525 Gillis) and features over 30 LOCAL KC artists living and working in the Columbus Park neighborhood of Kansas City, MO . The showcase will feature a variety of art in multiple media including sculpture, painting, photography, mixed media and video more.

proXimity’ was conceived by trap Gallery owner, Dan Frueh, in an effort to raise awareness of the large pool of talented artists living in his neighborhood.

What: Opening Reception — Friday, May 18, 2012. Hours — 6-10 p.m. (the event is free and open to the public; free beverages and snacks will be provided) All 30+ artists are scheduled to attend the opening reception. ‘proXimity’ is available by appointment from May 18 until June 8.

Who: Participating artists include: Kate Barsotti, Sam Bustamante, Chris Dahlquist, Brandy Dodson, Sandra Dodson, Dana Donn, Mary Fasone, Kurt Flecksing, Dan Frueh, Rebecca Gallant, Alexandria Gardner, Garnett Griebel, JoMarie Guastello, Jake Hendershot, Calder Kamin, Christy Longeran, Paul Mallory, Natalie Merola, Tony Merlo, Hollis Officer, BD Pruitt, Lynn Richardson, Wade Schoenthaler, Laura Sterchi, Matt Tady, Dan Wayne, Janice Wilczek, and more.

The evening will also feature a fundraiser and silent auction to benefit Mercy Beyond Borders, a 501(c)3 charitable organization working to educate and assist women and children in the Sudan. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. There will be live music at the event.

ABOUT The trap Gallery — The trap Gallery is owned and operated by Dan Frueh and his wife, Christine Stephan; Dan is participating in the show. They have owned the property for eleven years and have staged dozens of shows featuring local and regional artists during that time. Dan and fellow Columbus Park artist Dan Wayne, have been leaders in the Columbus Park Third Friday art crawl program for many years. Dan, Christine, and their family reside above the trap Gallery. They are active in the Columbus Park Community Council and their neighborhood community garden.
