The KCAI campus is about to burst with color, creativity, and imagination as the Kansas City Art Institute opens its doors for ARTPOP 2026—a one-night-only celebration of art and community on Thursday, May 7.
This highly anticipated annual event serves as a preview celebration of KCAI’s Spring End-of-Semester Exhibition + Sale, where every corner of the campus comes alive with student innovation. Wander through each department’s exhibits and studios, meet the faculty and students, and see work from the spring semester.
The evening also showcases the BFA Exhibition at the KCAI Gallery and the Emily and Todd Voth Artspace, just north of the main campus. Here, graduating seniors debut the culminating works of their journey in these beautiful gallery spaces—bold, conceptual, and deeply personal expressions that capture what it means to complete their studies at KCAI.
Amid the festivities, guests can sip on signature cocktails, sample artisanal bites, and be delighted by wandering performers throughout the night. And don’t miss POPTRA, a mesmerizing, avant-garde procession of costumes and performance art featuring experimental, one-of-a-kind fashion designed and presented by the students.
ARTPOP attendees are invited to visit the Ceramics studio, where wheel‑thrown, hand‑built pieces explore texture and surface. View the works of the Fiber department, with their intricately woven surfaces and structures. In the Graphic and Product Design labs, see the future as concepts are translated into tangible prototypes. The Painting and Printmaking studios show how time-honored techniques are used to create modern works of art. Feel the unwavering confidence of the Illustration studios. Students in the Animation department bring static images to life, and in Filmmaking and Photography they merge analog methods with the precision of digital technology. Experience texture, size, and scale in the Sculpture studio and finally, see how first-year Foundation students pursue their uninhibited vision, setting the tone for what is to come during their time at KCAI.
Selections of the students’ artwork are available for purchase, offering guests a remarkable chance to begin or grow an art collection—all at accessible prices. It is an opportunity to learn about and acquire artworks from one of the top art and design colleges in the country.
