Calls for Artists at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art

Artists looking for a place to exhibit their work have three upcoming opportunities with the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. The 51st Annual Membership Exhibition opens January 17, 2025, while the Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition and the Art Experience Galleries at MLC deadlines are in early February.

The opportunity to share their work with the community draws artists of all skills levels to the Annual Membership Exhibition year after year. Open to all members of the museum whether they are professionals, hobbyists, or enthusiastic students, the exhibition fulfills one of the key missions of the AKMA: nurturing regional artists. By focusing on recent works, the exhibition reflects the vibrancy of each artists’ current practice and points toward the future. The museum staff is excited to see artists whose skill and confidence grows with each new exhibition.

The Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition began in 2017 and has become an opportunity for students across the country to exhibit their work in a museum. In 2024 the museum received entries from 87 students from 29 schools in 14 states. This exhibition is open to any current undergraduate student in the United States. The artworks selected for 2025 will be on view from April 19 through June 15.

Since 2015 the AKMA has partnered with Mosaic Life Care for the Art Experience Galleries at MLC. Galleries and hallways throughout the hospital are filled with work by area artists on a six-month rotation. The entry fees and commission from sales support the work of AKMA, while the employees and visitors at MLC enjoy a more welcoming environment. The partnership between MLC and the Albrecht-Kemper Museum has allowed this program to focus on local artists by requiring that artists live within 100 miles of St. Joseph.
