CinemaKC, a not-for-profit organization connecting film related groups in Kansas and Missouri, will host the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee on March 10 at 7:30pm at the Screenland Crown Center. The KC Filmmakers Jubilee features a retrospective of favorite shorts shown at the Jubilee festival over the past 15 years. The program includes a mixer at 6:30pm followed by the screenings and a Q&A with filmmakers starting at 7:30pm.
The films featured are “Prairie Storm”, by Don Maxwell, a classic Kansas City film shot in the Flint Hills during a passing thunder storm with a slightly eerie soundtrack that includes Native American chant; “Ca-chinks” by Andrew Harbeck, two spiders and a light bulb – off or on – there is a solution; “M(other)” by Rossana Jeran, a visual study of a rarely explored side of the mother archetype; “L . . .” by Todd Norris, a boy’s conflict with his father has unintended consequences; “Where’s Phil?” by John McGrath – A single unbroken scene at a Westport coffee shop asks the question and provides the answer; “W.A.H.M.O.” by Gino Licata – Is this the future of medical care without reform?; “Prisoner of Love” by Rich Ambler – A nice restaurant, romantic dinner, a break-up, and a camera; “Bra-A Lingerie Tale” by Sharon Chapman, Linda Wiedmaier, Terie Clement – Who knew that buying a bra could be such a moving experience? Men take note.; “Singing Bass” by John Sjoblom – Friendship, love, insanity, murder – just ask the fish; and “Big Dog, Little Dog” by Evan Hahl – Dark story of the impact of one act of violence generates others. Other films featured are “World Builder” by Bruce Branit – A virtual world for the woman he loves; and “Truth Blues” by Mike Snell – A stylized look into a city and the ‘truths’ that can overwhelm the things we actually know.
KC Filmmakers Jubilee Founder Fred Andrews has curated these selections from hundreds of available titles. Tickets are $8, and available at www.screenland.com or at the door. Tickets for Students and IFC-KC members are $5. CinemaKC is an initiative of the Film Society of Greater Kansas City, connecting with movie lovers since 1991.
