In November, Leitch posed with a work in progress in the studio space at KCAI Crossroads Gallery. The piece is envisioned in the dream drawing. (images from the artist)
Kansas City artist Christopher Leitch is well known for his illustrated dream journals filled with funny, scary, bittersweet and personally revealing words and pictures. (KC Studio featured a selection of them in our July/August 2016 Artist Pages.)
Coming up: Leitch will unveil a new twist on the dream journals concept in the exhibit, “chance diaries: dream things,” beginning Jan. 23 at the KCAI Crossroads Gallery. The show will feature new drawings, but also sculptures — things he dreamed of making, Leitch said, and then decided to realize in waking life.
Leitch is fabricating the new work, including a magenta lurex fringe-covered alphabet, a whimsical tree costume fashioned from green and brown felt, and a pyramid of old chairs, in the KCAI Crossroads Gallery studio space.
Learn more from Leitch himself during a noon gallery talk with the artist on Feb. 10. The gallery will hold a public opening reception for the show from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 2.
Christopher Leitch — “chance diaries: dream things” runs from Jan. 23 to March 2 at KCAI Crossroads Gallery, 1819 Grand Blvd. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. For more information, 816.914.5394 or kcai.edu/crossroads-gallery
