Hungry Continues at the Unicorn Through March 18

The World Premiere of a hilarious new play by a clever and twisted young female playwright, Lia Romeo, continues through Sunday.  Kansas City audiences were treated to Green Whales, a play about a girl with Turner’s syndrome looking for love on the Internet, at the Unicorn in 2010.  Her latest play, HUNGRY, introduces us to high school misfit Amy, who struggles to fit in at home and at school, dealing with boy problems, peer pressure and her mother’s constant pestering about her weight gain.  But when a Minotaur mysteriously appears in her backyard, Amy finds help and support from a very unlikely source.  Being best friends with a giant, man-eating mythological beast has its advantages, but will the Minotaur be her salvation, or her downfall?

Producing Artistic Director Cynthia Levin directs this world premiere production and has headed up the development of the play since its first reading at the Unicorn in 2010.  The play features Dina Thomas as Amy, Chioma Anyanwu as her best friend and biggest competition Bianca, Katie Gilchrist plays her mother Katharine and Jeff Smith plays the Minotaur.

HUNGRY runs through March 18 and plays on the Unicorn’s Jerome Stage located at 3828 Main St., Kansas City, MO 64111.  Performances Tuesday through Thursday are at 7:30 pm, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm.  To purchase tickets, call Unicorn Theatre at 816-531-PLAY (7529) EXT. 10, online at www.UnicornTheatre.org or in person at the box office located at 3828 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64111.
