Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri’s Holiday Mart 2011 Hitting Downtown!

$7 million raised to help support local community since 1988.

The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri’s (JLKCMO) annual fundraiser, Holiday Mart, will bring four days of shopping, dining and tourism to downtown Kansas City Oct. 20-23, 2011. New for Holiday Mart 2011 is its Kansas City Convention Center (Bartle Hall) location.

Holiday Mart 2011, presented by JLKCMO and staffed by the members of the volunteer organization, will feature more than 200 retailers that offer a unique and wide selection of fashion and accessories, home décor, children’s clothing and gifts, beauty and specialty food products and more. From Thursday, Oct. 20 through Sunday, Oct. 23, more than 23,000 people from across the region will enjoy “great shopping for a great cause” at Holiday Mart 2011, which has been a destination shopping event for 24 years in Kansas City.

Moreover, since Holiday Mart began in 1988, JLKCMO has raised more than $7 million to help support the Kansas City community. The League’s current community impact area is children’s fitness, nutrition and obesity prevention. Holiday Mart funds – which totaled more than $660,000 at last year’s event – have made it possible for the League to make a financial impact on children’s literacy programs in the Kansas City community, and to provide funding support to organizations like Harvesters and Jackson County CASA, to name a few. For each dollar raised at Holiday Mart, 85 cents goes to support the JLKCMO’s mission: The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Holiday Mart 2011, located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, has moved to Bartle Hall to allow for planned growth in retailers and shoppers as well as development of even more special events and features unique to Holiday Mart. Bartle Hall is within walking distance of the Kansas City Power & Light District (P&L), as well as theaters, hotels, great shopping and dining – pretty much everything you need for a fun girls’ night, family weekend or staycation escape.

To enhance the Holiday Mart experience for shoppers, JLKCMO has partnered with the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association and downtown Kansas City businesses to offer additional amenities like after hours promotions with P&L, a special rate with The Kansas City Marriott Downtown and more.
