Kansas City Originals: The American Restaurant

seveyThe American Restaurant opened in February 1974 as part of the Crown Center complex. The original Warren Platner Associates design is glass-enclosed and sits above Hall’s Department Store and the new Sea Life and Legoland attractions. The expansive views of the downtown Kansas City skyline and Crown Center Square are considered to be some of the best in town.

Top Chef Masters contestant and James Beard Award winning Executive Chef, Debbie Gold offers contemporary American cuisine. She uses quality, seasonal ingredients and when possible, local farmers and products. The menu is designed the guest to enjoy multiple courses and therefore endless flavors and textures. Wine Director and General Manager Jamie Jamison proudly offers suggestions from the stellar wine list to complement the complex culinary creations. With more than 1,100 labels and 11 sommeliers on staff the experienced and the first time diners are welcome!

The BAR American takes on new life this year with happy hour specials and extended hours. Chef Gold and Pastry Chef Nick Wesemann showcase a small bites menu tempting a variety of palates.

For its cuisine, extensive wine list and exceptional service, The American Restaurant is the sole Kansas City recipient of both Forbes Four-Star and AAA’s Four-Diamond Awards. Other recognitions include The Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence, Chaine des Rotisseurs Dining and Service Award, Hall of Fame Award and Ingram’s Gold Award in both Best Overall and Most Romantic.
