To Danny O’Neill, owner and “Bean Baron” of The Roasterie, collaboration is not an action. It’s a perspective. He loves ideas. Big ideas. Small ideas. Groundbreaking ideas.
“I get even more excited about an idea when it’s someone else’s. I love being able to take a great concept and bring it to fruition.”
Since the moment he took the plunge from corporate to coffee, collaboration has been the name of the game. O’Neill is not only passionate about his mission of creating extraordinary coffee experiences for his customers. He takes his partnerships pretty seriously, too.
“To me, collaboration should be just like it is for musicians. When my partners and I get together, it’s a jam session.”
O’Neill has partnered with some of the best in Kansas City. To name a few, he’s teamed up with Clear10™ to produce an espresso-infused vodka, Original Juan™ to develop a barbeque sauce and rub, and André’s Confiserie Suisse to create unforgettable espresso chocolate bars.
But wait. O’Neill doesn’t just collaborate on consumable goods. He truly believes that alliances create a superior outcome. When considering installing solar panels on the plant, O’Neill sought the expertise of Brightergy Solar Solutions, who helped The Roasterie with government reimbursements for their eco-friendly initiatives. Throughout the plant remodel process, KCP&L has been an ongoing support with economic development funding, safety training and rebate assistance. The LaFarge construction material supplier and The Roasterie have heated up “green” by burning the company’s used, recycled silver bags to make concrete for the plant’s foundation.
What’s next, you ask?
“I’m open to anything,” says O’Neill. “Connecting with people through coffee is what I do.” And he means it.
