The Kansas City Wind Symphony continues their 19th season “As You Like It” on Sunday evening February 12th at 7:00 in the sanctuary of Village Church in Prairie Village, Kansas.
The free concert entitled “Songs of the Earth and the Sea” opens with a work entitled “Clash,” composed and conducted by Ryan Main, Interim Minister of Music at the Village Church. The program continues with Chaminade’s “Concertino for Flute” performed by our principal flute Kaytee Dietrich. A very special arrangement of Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore” featuring four solo marimbas is next. Closing the first half of the program is a new work by British composer Philip Sparke entitled “Sailing With The Tall Ships.”
“Fanfare For All Ships And All Seas” by Ian Coleman, Music Department Chair at William Jewell College, opens the second half of the program. Associate Conductor, Pat Setser, will then take the podium to conduct Francis McBeth’s exciting work “Of Sailors and Whales – Five Scenes from Melville’s Moby Dick.” Reverend Tom Are Jr., Senior Pastor, will read passages from the novel.
The November 6th performance at Helzberg Hall was very well received by a near capacity crowd, and the KCWS is excited to bring you even more riveting musical performances in the second half of our season!
