Kansas City Wind Symphony Soloists Performing October 9

Meet the soloists for the October 9 Kansas City Wind Symphony concert and get a sneak peek at last night’s rehearsal with one of them!

Ron Witzke has been a member of the voice faculty at William Jewell College since 1984, where he maintains an active performance schedule while balancing his administrative and teaching responsibilities. His operatic successes include roles in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Richard Strauss’s Salome, Verdi’s Rigoletto and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City under the baton of Maestro Ward Holmquist. In February of 2015 he performed with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City in the company’s premier of Silent Night.

Qiulin  Zhang,  contralto, made  her  American  and  San  Francisco  Opera  debuts  as  Granny  Jia  in  the  world premier of a new opera based on a Chinese novel “Dream of the Red Chamber.” Trained in China and France, she  has performed at many of Europe’s prestigious opera houses and concert halls.  She most recently performed  the role of  Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at the Avenches Festival  in  Switzerland, the Hong  Kong Festival, La Monnaie Royal Theatre in Brussels, and the title role in numerous productions of Carmen.

Jacob  Sentgeorge, tenor, has won enthusiastic acclaim for his performances as a soloist with Pro Musica Colorado, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and Spire, among several other ensembles. He recently presented solo recitals in Florence, Italy as well as Maryland, Indiana, Kansas, and Florida. Jacob was a featured soloist for our second concert of the 2015-2016 season “A Night of Magic”  singing the famous aria “Nessun Dorma” from the opera Turandot by Rossini, and “Vainement bien aimee” from the opera The King of Y’s by Edouard Lalo.

Kaytee Dietrich, KCWS Principal Flute, received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Flute Performance from The University of Kansas. Since graduating, Miss Dietrich developed a passion for playing in pit orchestras for musicals. She has performed in over 140 productions in both professional and community theaters using her doubling skills on flute, clarinet and saxophone. In addition to the KCWS, Kaytee has performed with Midwest Winds, Shawnee Concert Band, Olathe Community Orchestra and Overland Park Orchestra. Kaytee also plays clarinet in the orchestra at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection and teaches private lessons for flute, clarinet and saxophone.
