Kids ‘Team Up For Art’ at the Plaza Library

Children in kindergarten through eighth grade are encouraged to tap their creative energies and create masterpieces at the Westport Center for the Arts’ “Team Up for Art” at the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library, 4801 Main Street, this summer.

Artist Stanley Morgan will lead workshops in July and August. Participants will focus on both individual skill building and the completion of a group project by the end of the session.

Sessions will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  July 14 and August 4. Parents are asked to provide an age-appropriate snack for their child for mid-session break. All participants are invited to stay for both sessions; we suggest bringing a bag lunch. Westport Center for the Arts will provide the beverages.

During past sessions, young participating artists have completed seasonal works of art, like Valentines and “garden” sculptures, using recycled and donated materials. Examples of artwork produced during Kids Team Up for Art sessions can be viewed in the children’s section of the Plaza Branch.

Participants are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for working with paint, glue, clay and other hands-on materials. Parent or guardians of children 8 years old or younger must attend the session. Younger participants and their families should plan on spending at least two hours at the workshop.

Enrollment is free. Participants can enroll online at http://www.westportcenterforthearts.org or by e-mail at info@westportcenterforthearts.org.
