Sponsored: LAST CHANCE to visit Life Beyond Earth? at the Linda Hall Library

Are We Alone? The Question That Fascinates Humanity

You have less than a month left to explore one of the biggest questions in the universe! The Linda Hall Library’s highly popular Life Beyond Earth? is closing on October 11, and you don’t want to miss your chance to see it.

“Wouldn’t it be the fault of our ego to claim we have a definitive answer?”

“If the universe is truly infinite, then somewhere, however far away, there is life.”

“Space is huge, our technology is limited, and we would be hard pressed to even understand them & their tech.”

These are just a few of the thought-provoking responses the Linda Hall Library received when they asked visitors: Do you believe there is life beyond Earth?

This profound question has fascinated humanity for centuries. Given the vast number of stars and planets in the known universe, it seems possible that life, including intelligent life, could be abundant. Yet, despite decades of searching, scientists have found no credible evidence beyond our planet. As one visitor put it: “If you believe there is life, there is no ‘elsewhere’ – life can be anywhere but we do not always see it.”

From Fringe Science to Front-Page Headlines

Life Beyond Earth? dives into the history of the scientific search for extraterrestrial life, from the 16th century to today.

In the past half-century, the search for life beyond Earth has accelerated and moved from fringe science to legitimate research. With advanced technology and unanswered questions, the question is no longer are we alone, but are we ready for contact?

The exhibition captivates visitors with original documents and objects that trace this dramatic shift in research and public perception.
