and Tradition: Inside the NFL’s Analytics Revolution.” This is the Library’s second annual sports analytics program, this time focusing on America’s most popular sport: football.
The competitive edge in football has traditionally meant bigger, faster, stronger athletes. While those attributes are still relevant, a fourth component – data – has increasingly become another way for teams to gain a strategic advantage. From performance metrics to player-tracking data, forward-thinking franchises now have tools to help analyze plays and players differently, assist with in-game decision making, and gain a deeper understanding of the game.
In this program, Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Tackle Mike Pennel and Hall of Famer Tim Grunhard join moderator Cynthia Frelund from NFL Network and a panel of experts to explore the role of Big Data in football, its impact on the game for both players and fans, and what it means for the future of America’s most popular sport.
“Technology and Tradition: Inside the NFL’s Analytics Revolution” is free and open to the public, though pre-registering is required. The program takes place from 6:30 PM – 7:45 PM on June 20 at the Linda Hall Library, located at 5109 Cherry Street in Kansas City, Missouri.
