The overarching vision for The Raphael Hotel’s signature restaurant, Chaz, is to stand out as a unique dining establishment that embodies the culture, history, and spirit of Kansas City. Food that highlights the heartland’s abundance and artwork that celebrates local landmarks are the obvious elements that flow from that vision, but insiders are quick to point to the music as perhaps playing an even more prominent role in defining the restaurant.
“Live music plays a central role in the dining experience at Chaz,” said Steve Miller, Director of Operations for The Raphael Hotel. “People come to enjoy a fine meal in a comfortable atmosphere. What music provides is an atmospheric nuance that enlarges their experience with friends and food,” Miller said.
Sometimes referred to as a hidden gem, Chaz blends a warm, sensuous atmosphere with an energetic vibe – a place where live music enthusiasts will find their home away from home…. a place that pays homage to Kansas City’s jazz heritage and vibrant artistic scene. It’s a place where local composers and musicians define the distinct Kansas City sound every night for 365 nights a year, and during Sunday Jazz Brunch. And, depending on the night, guests could hear a variety of genres – from modern swing to jazz standards, or even The Mengel Brothers, a classically trained string duo playing covers of favorite pop or rock songs.
Jordan Carver, director of operations at Chaz, said it’s talent and atmosphere that keep guests coming back. “Regular performers include Lonnie McFadden, Eboni Fondren, Grand Marquis, Stan Kessler, Jackie Meyers, Matt Villinger, and Bryan Hicks, but there are far too many to name them all,” said Carver. One thing they all have in common, though, is that they represent the very best the city has to offer.
Chaz offers live music nightly and during jazz brunch every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Complimentary valet parking for Chaz guests also adds to the enjoyment of this one-of-a-kind restaurant.
