Menopause the Musical Returns Jan. 18

The hilarious Off-Broadway hit show Menopause The Musical by Jeanie Linders will be presented by American Heartland Theatre at Crown Center’s Off Center Theatre for a limited engagement Jan. 18 through Feb. 17.

This joyful musical parody set to 25 classic baby-boomer songs from Puff, My God I’m Draggin’ to the disco favorite Stayin’ Awake, Stayin’ Awake will have audience cheering and dancing in the aisles!

Billed as “The Hilarious Celebration of Women and The Change®,” the musical begins with four very different women, “Power Woman,” “Soap Star,” “Iowa Housewife,” and “Earth Mother,” at a Bloomingdale’s lingerie sale with nothing in common but a black lace bra – and hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, and too much sex on top of the day-to-day challenges of aging parents, aging children and aging partners.  A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer The Silent Passage! It is a stage in every woman’s life that is perfectly normal!

American Heartland Theatre is reprising this production at Off Center Theatre due to popular demand. Teri Adams (Iowa Housewife), Nedra Dixon (Power Woman), and Valarie Mackey (Earth Mother) have all appeared in these roles before, both at AHT and at other venues across the country. Julie Shaw (Soap Star) is making her Menopause The Musical debut.

Since its first performance, the show has evolved as a grassroots movement of women who deal with life after 40 and all the challenges that result from the mental, physical, and spiritual freedom of being a woman. Millions of women around the world (men too!) have attended a performance since the 2001 opening in Orlando, Fla. Menopause The Musical has entertained audiences across the country in more than 450 U.S. cities, a total of 15 countries and nearly 300 international cities.

Performances begin Friday, Jan. 18 and continue through Sunday, Feb. 17. Listening devices and accessible seating is available for all performances.
