A Stimulating Season for Music Lovers
Rest well, classical music fans. You will need your strength to get through this eclectic season provided by Kansas City’s cultural organizations. Fortunately, there is plenty of stimulation in the community’s vibrant offerings. First off, we noticed an uptick in representation of women throughout the year. Concerts devoted to the works of women pepper the season, but more importantly, works by women are integrated in the programming, accounting for fewer token, and more sustainable, appearances.

On Thursday, Aug. 30, at 5:30 p.m., the 21c Museum Hotel will host a convergence of Historic Restoration, Contemporary Art and local artists at the 21c Salon: A View From Home. Five Kansas City artists will speak about the Open Spaces Exhibition in the renovated Savoy Grill Building at 219 W 9th Street. Enjoy the art of the 21c Museum Hotel and the Open Spaces installation of Brad Kahlhamer’s extraordinary wire and bell hanging artwork.

KC Rep Kicks Off Season with World Premiere Musical
Kansas City Repertory Theatre launches its 2018/2019 season with the World Premiere musical, LAST DAYS OF SUMMER, September 7 – 30, 2018. LAST DAYS is based on the book by author Steve Kluger, who also wrote the book and lyrics for this production.

Open Spaces, Kansas City’s 10-week, citywide arts event, will open this weekend, and Mayor James and the Open Spaces team will celebrate with you, your neighbors and gigantic puppets! At 11:30 AM on SATURDAY, 8/25, music will flow in Swope Park’s Village, food trucks will await you, and 40 dancers and 15-foot high artists will amaze the crowd!
