The Park University International Center for Music will host its ICM Showcase concert on Sunday, Jan. 30, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Parkville Campus. The concert, a part of the University’s ICM Concert Series, will feature ICM faculty and students. Admission to the concert is $5 for the general public. Park University faculty, staff and students are admitted free with their Park ID card.
The concert will feature a variety of strings pieces performed by individuals, with a strings and piano quartet as the finale. Performers and the pieces they are scheduled to perform include (all will be accompanied by Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, coordinator of music collaboration):
· Petr Maslan, cello, working on his graduate certificate in music performance from Prague, Czech Republic — Schumann’s “Five Pieces in Folk Style, op. 102”
· Shokhrukh Sadikov, viola, a junior applied music/strings major from Tashkent, Uzbekistan — Walton’s “Concerto for Viola and Orchestra”
· Mansur Kadirov, cello, freshman applied music/strings major from Tashkent, Uzbekistan — Lalo’s “Concerto in D Major for Cello and Orchestra”
· Magdalena Maslanova, violin, working on her graduate certificate in music performance from Prague, Czech Republic — Janacek’s “Sonata in A Flat Minor for Violin and Piano”
· Matej Polasek, violin, working on his graduate certificate in music performance from Prague Czech Republic — Sibelius’ “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D Minor, op. 47”
· Sunnat Ibragimov, cello, senior applied music/strings major from Tashkent, Uzbekistan — Shostakovich’s “Sonata in D Minor for Cello and Piano, op. 40”
· Ekaterina Zykova, violin, working on her graduate certificate in music performance from Kirov, Russia — Kroll’s “Banjo and Fiddle”
· Lisovskaya-Sayevich (piano), Ben Sayevich (violin), professor of music, Daniel Veis (cello), visiting assistant professor of music and Chung-Hoon Peter Chun (viola) — Fauré’s “Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Minor, op. 15”
Upcoming ICM Concert Series events include a piano recital of students from the studio of internationally acclaimed Stanislav Ioudenitch on Saturday, Feb. 5, and the ICM Chamber Orchestra performing with featured pianist Behzod Abduraimov on Saturday, Feb. 26. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel.
The International Center for Music at Park University was established to foster the exchange of master teacher/performers, renowned young musicians and programs from countries across the globe. The education of emerging musicians is at the philosophical core of the Center’s mission and the quality of that training crucial to great artistry. The ICM is comprised of three divisions — Graduate, Undergraduate and the Youth Conservatory for Music. The focus of the Center is on piano and strings, and performance.
