The Midwest Trust Center Announces their 2023-2024 Season!

Join the Midwest Trust Center at Johnson County Community College for a thrilling season of live performances. The lineup includes several collaborations with local artists and organizations including the Bach Aria Soloists and Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, the Opus 76 Quartet, What If Puppets and the tenth festival of contemporary and modern dance, New Dance Partners.

Highlights include:

The Opus 76 Quartet returns as MTC’s artists-in-residence. On September 9 Music of Regency will feature a “Bridgerton”-themed performance complete with chamber music and high tea. On May 5 the quartet will be joined by violist Paul Neubauer for Mozart’s C Major viola quintet & Brahms’ G Major Viola Quintet.
Kansas City native, Mark Yonally, is the founder and Artistic Director of Chicago Tap Theatre. They will bring their original production Unleash the Beats to Yardley Hall on October 13. It’s a celebration of the best in tap dance, from historical pieces of the past to the innovative and compelling original work for which Chicago Tap Theatre is known.

With a reverence for their roots combined with a creative, contemporary edge, Rum Ragged (Oct. 14) has quickly become known as the finest performers of their great living musical tradition. Rum Ragged takes a bold approach to the distinct folk music of their home, Newfoundland. Boasting bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, guitar and button accordion, these new champions of East Coast music enliven and enlighten audiences with their signature brand of Newfoundland folk.

Your favorite rock ‘n roll legends return Dec. 7 for a brand-new holiday musical, Million Dollar Quartet Christmas! Inspired by the Tony Award-nominated hit musical, Million Dollar Quartet, this holiday reimagining once again brings together soon-to-be legends Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley for a musical holiday celebration featuring a nostalgic string of chart-topping favorites.

Rumours (Jan. 19) is the band to see if you’re looking for an authentic recreation of live Fleetwood Mac shows. Formed in 2014, they have taken the U.S. by storm with their stage-scorching renditions of Fleetwood Mac songs. Featuring specially crafted shows and not one detail left behind, Rumours continues to sell out some of the top venues in the U.S. Do you believe in miracles and the ways of magic? Rumours does!
Jan. 20 Grammy-nominated David Krakauer and acclaimed composer/performer Kathleen Tagg present, Breath & Hammer, a passionate, eclectic and highly personal musical journey. Widely considered one of the greatest clarinetists on the planet, Krakauer has been praised as a key innovator in modern klezmer, as well as a major voice in classical music. South African-born pianist, composer and producer Kathleen Tagg has performed on four continents and appeared on a host of classical, world music and multi-genre recordings.

On Feb. 3 Makin’ Cake creator Dasha Kelly Hamilton slices into American history, exploring race, culture and class in a refreshing and fun way. It is storytelling in layers, filled with aha-moments and poignant vignettes, digital media and a supporting cast of two onstage bakers. Part history lesson, part social science revelation, Makin’ Cake is a short story about America’s sweet tooth and pathway to salvation.

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s American classic, Little Women the Musical (Feb. 10) follows the adventures of the four March sisters – Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, and their beloved Marmee at home in Concord, Massachusetts, while their father is away serving in the Civil War. The powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartbreak, hope and everlasting love – the sounds of a young America finding its voice.

Friday, Mar. 8 examine the timeless commentary on the indispensable and fragile nature of history and learning with Aquila Theatre’s production of Fahrenheit 451. Artistic Director Desiree Sanchez uses author Ray Bradbury’s own stage adaptation in a new production that deftly articulates just how pressing and prescient this cautionary tale is.
