Kansas City PBS is proud to announce the premiere of the third installment of We Are Latinos, a series of documentary shorts that showcase the cultural and artistic contributions of Kansas City’s Latino community. Watch the broadcast premiere of We Are Latinos on Kansas City PBS Channel 19.1 on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m.
To celebrate the premiere, Kansas City PBS will host a screening event featuring vendors, food trucks and lowriders at the Boulevard Drive-In Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m. The event is free, but registration is required at kanasascitypbs.org/events.
“We Are Latinos provides such an important platform to amplify Kansas City’s Latino community, and we are honored to share these compelling stories that celebrate the city’s rich cultural heritage,” said Kliff Kuehl, Kansas City PBS president and CEO.
In this third installment of We Are Latinos, filmmaker Victor Antillanca highlights three local trailblazers using their diverse perspectives to strengthen their communities: author and poet José Faus, up-and-coming comic book artist Baldemar Rivas and the first female president of the KC Estilo Car Club Monica Peña. Antillanca joins these outstanding individuals behind the scenes in their work by taking a trip to Colombia, visiting a local art studio and taking a low-rider cruise through Kansas City.
“I want the viewers to know that amazing Latinos are living in the city — some born here and some not — but they are all doing their part to make Kansas City better,” said Antillanca, We Are Latinos producer.
