Every few years, The Friends of Chamber Music recognizes an exceptional musician who has made an exceptional contribution to the world of music. In January 2017, they will recognize two musicians who have re-introduced historic pianos back into mainstream classical music:  Alexei Lubimov and Malcolm Bilson. On Friday January 20th, The Friends of Chamber Music will present pianist Alexei Lubimov with a Lifetime Achievement Award on stage ahead of the evening’s performance.

In celebration of both pianists’ achievements, The Friends has partnered with a local artist, internationally renowned ceramicist Rain Harris, in creating one-of-a-kind sculptures to be awarded on stage and displayed in the lobby at intermission. Be sure to get your tickets as Alexei Lubimov makes his Kansas City debut and receives our Lifetime Achievement Award—handcrafted right here in Kansas City.

Russian pianist Alexei Lubimov is one of the most strikingly original musicians performing today. He has a dual passion for both early music performed on historical instruments, as well as contemporary repertoire. Appearing for the first time in Kansas City, Mr. Lubimov will be performing works by Debussy and Stravinsky.

Alexei Lubimov and Malcolm Bilson both have re-invigorated the world of historic pianos, catapulting them back into mainstream classical music. Their careers as performers, educators, scholars, and innovators have stunned the classical music world with their artistry, passion, and new insights. Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime special event!

Tickets for this special concert-award event are available online at chambermusic.org, over the phone at 816.561.9999, or at the Box Office on the night of the concert. Through our Young Friends program, tickets for children under the age of 18 are reduced.
