Kansas City, Kansas Public Libraries Offer Art Displays

Now through January 3, 2012, “Flowers and Faces” artwork by Janet Manson and “Klicks for Kids,” a photography exhibit featuring the images of Kansas children in foster care needing adoption will be on display at the West Wyandotte Library. Janet will show oil paintings and charcoal portraits.

January 5 through 30, 2012, Beauty among the Beasts: A Texas Cacti Photo Essay by Craig Hensley will be on display at the West Wyandotte Library. The West Wyandotte Library is located at 1737 N. 82nd Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Library hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. The exhibits are free and open to the public.

Now through January 10, 2012, “Our Jewish Past,” a traveling exhibit from the Wyandotte County Historical Museum will be on display at the Main Library. 
The exhibit highlights the history of the Jewish community in Wyandotte County. The Main Library is located at 625 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. Library hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. The exhibit is free and open to the public. 

Now through January 11, 2012 Artwork by students at the Mattie Rhodes Center will be on display at the Argentine Library.

January 13 through March 13, 2012, “Histories,” paintings by Allison Hedgpeth will be on display at the Argentine Library. Allison Hedgpeth is a fine arts painter-printmaker and teacher, with a BFA in painting from the Art Institute, and an MA in Studio Art from UMKC. She also studied printmaking at KU. Her work is in collections across the United States, and in Spain. She has held teaching positions at UMKC and the Nelson Art Gallery, as well as in community centers and provides private instruction. The Argentine Library is located at 2800 Metropolitan Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. Library hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibits are free and open to the public.

December 19, 2011 through February 16, 2012, Paintings by Kathleen Anderson will be on display at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library.Kathleen has participated in juried shows in the Washington DC area, and now in local art shows such as the Greater Kansas City’s Art in Motion Show and the Mid-Winter Art Fair at Ward Parkway Center.  Her paintings are displayed in various Lawrence and Kansas City businesses, private collections and galleries. The Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library is located at 4051 West Drive, Wyandotte County Lake Park, Kansas City, Kansas. Library hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The exhibit is free and open to the public.       

January 9 through March 12, 2012, Artwork by members of the Wyandotte Art Association will be on display at the Turner Community Library.
The Turner Community Library is located in the Arthur C. Waugh Turner Community Center, 831 S. 55th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Library hours are Noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The library is closed on Sunday. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
