National World War I Museum Offers Many Events This December

November 29 – January 8
In the Spotlight: Christmas During War
This special display will feature a 1918 Santa Claus costume along with a number of other Christmas-related items from the Great War period. Included with regular Museum admission.

December 2-45th Anniversary Celebration

The Museum celebrates its 5th anniversary with $5 admission for all guests. (No coupons or other discounts will apply.) Special photos will be displayed in the lobby chronicling highlights of the past five years at the Museum.

Hands-on History, 1-3 p.m.
Ever wonder what the objects behind the glass feel like or how heavy they are? Spark your child’s imagination and help bring history to life! Great War artifacts will be available to see and touch in the Museum gallery from 1-3 p.m. all weekend.  Included with regular Museum admission.

Saturday, December 10Home By Christmas, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
WWI re-enactors will be at the Museum to interact with visitors. Be sure to bring your camera to take photos with these living-history volunteers!
Movie: Joyeux Noël,  2 p.m.
Celebrate the holidays with a special showing of Joyeux Noël (2005), the dramatic true story of the spontaneous 1914 Christmas Truce along the Western Front. The film stars Diane Kruger (from the films Troy and National Treasure), Benno Fermann (Speed Racer), and Gary Lewis (The Gangs of New York). Rated PG-13; subtitles; 116 minutes. This free event will take place in the Museum’s J.C. Nichols Auditorium.
