KC Studio is pleased to announce the appointment of Alice Thorson as the bi-monthly publication’s new editor.
Thorson comes to KC Studio following 23 years as the art critic for the Kansas City Star and prior publication experience as managing editor of the non-profit New Art Examiner in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
Thorson will lead KC Studio’s push to bring depth, focus and a heightened level of expertise to its editorial coverage of Kansas City’s cultural organizations and the talented artists they present.
“Thorson’s involvement can take this important project to the next level,” said Guy Townsend, president of Townsend Communications, Inc., and publisher of KC Studio. “I am very impressed by her energy, enthusiasm and professionalism.”
With the January/February 2015 issue, KC Studio unveiled a total magazine redesign, led by creative director Carrie Brophy in collaboration with Mark Berndt, who recently signed on as the publication’s photographer.
Berndt is an established fine art and commercial photographer who teaches at the Kansas City Art Institute. Brophy was formerly art director at SPACES and graphic designer for Brides Magazine at Condé Nast.
The fourth member of the team is Heidi Nast, KC Studio’s co-founder with Guy Townsend. Nast oversees all aspects of the magazine’s day to day operations, including relations with underwriters and its Arts Consortium support group.
