Highlights of the Evening

Fantasia on Greensleeves

One of the evening’s highlights will be a mesmerizing rendition of the timeless English Renaissance tune “Greensleeves.” Known in America as the beloved Christmas hymn “What Child is This,” this haunting melody serves as the basis for an extended work featuring harp, flutes and strings, all masterfully composed by 20th-century virtuoso Ralph Vaughan Williams. The Fantasia on Greensleeves is a musical masterpiece that alternates between minor and major keys, creating a mood of depth, wonder and mystery that is sure to captivate your soul.

Skater’s Waltz

Embrace the charm of Emil Waldteuffel’s “Skater’s Waltz,” a composition that radiates warmth and joy. This delightful piece paints a vivid picture of a winter’s day, with its sweet melodies evoking the sounds of sleigh bells and even a comical slip and fall on the ice. You’ll be transported to a whimsical world of merriment and laughter.

Christmas Cantata by Alessandro Scarlatti

Travel back in time to the 17th and 18th centuries as we present Alessandro Scarlatti’s enchanting Christmas Cantata. Featuring a solo soprano and strings, this piece incorporates the rhythmic siciliana, a Sicilian shepherd’s dance that beautifully evokes the gentle rocking of the Christmas crèche.

A Taste of Vienna’s New Year’s Celebration

Experience the grandeur of Vienna’s New Year’s Day celebration with music from the illustrious Strauss family. As we delve into their iconic waltzes, polkas and overtures, you’ll be transported to the golden age of Vienna, where elegance and opulence reigned supreme. Our performance will feature the delicate Pizzacato Polka and the stirring Radetzky March, bringing the spirit of Vienna to life.

More Festive Surprises Await!

But the magic doesn’t stop there! Be prepared for additional festive works that will warm your heart and ignite your holiday spirit. Some of these pieces even invite audience participation, ensuring that everyone can be part of the celebration. We’ve curated a program that promises to be a musical feast for the senses, a perfect way to embrace the joy of the Christmas season.
